Virginia lawmakers intend to file three bills with the General Assembly that would uphold Daily Fantasy Sports contests for cash as legal. They have proposed regulations in place to protect consumers.
Two versions have been filed in the House – one by a Republican and one by two Democrats – and a third bill is expected to be filed in the Senate.
“Over a million Virginians play these,” said Del. Jackson H. Miller, R-Manassas, the patron of one of the House bills. “And I do have concerns about people wanting to come in and just shut the concept down.”
“My interest in proposing this legislation is to protect the industry,” said Del. Marcus B. Simon, D-Fairfax, a co-patron of the other House version of the bill. “To protect the concept that we can do this as a recreational activity without having it creep too far over the line into something that looks like an addictive form of gambling.”
