Yahoo Daily Fantasy Sports Site Comes Under Crosshairs of NY AG

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman expanded his probe into Daily Fantasy Sports sites this week, issuing subpoenas against media giant Yahoo.  That company entered the DFS market this past summer.

The attorney general sought an injunction on Tuesday to prevent both DraftKings and FanDuel from operating within the state, calling the companies “plainly illegal” and “nothing more than a rebranding of sports betting.”

FanDuel and DraftKings have advised New York residents they can no longer play on their respective sites for the time being.  Yahoo has continued to allow residents of that state to continue playing.

“Yahoo does not comment on legal matters,” a spokesman said in a statement.  “We are monitoring industry trends and events closely and believe that we offer a lawful product for our Daily Fantasy Sports users.”
