The New York Post this weekend blasted the Daily Fantasy Sports industry along with the professional sports leagues for “ripping off fans”.
In his scathing rebuke of the sector, Phil Mushnick writes:
The millions in prizes won’t be coming out of investors’ pockets. It will come from the pool filled with buckets of money lost to the house. And so the leagues and their TV networks are now in the business of not only urging sports fans to bet — every day, too — but also to lose their money so fantasy league backers can rake their cut of the action.
Nearly all the major sports leagues and owners have combined to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into leading Daily Fantasy Sports firms DraftKings and FanDuel.
“‘Fantasy’ is an important designation in this ballooning enterprise, as fantasy lends itself to make believe,” Mushnick states after lambasting an ad showing a sports fan winning $1 million following an important game play.
