May 20, 2015:

Series: Cardinals vs. Mets:

After a strong start to the season, Martinez has permitted 7 to 9 runs over his last three outings, escaping with just two runs on Friday against the Tigers.

He’s only faced 14 at bats on the current Mets roster, allowing just two hits. He only allowed a single run in five innings vs. the Mets last year.

Colon had his worst start of the season last time, allowing a season high 6 runs, including two homers, and failing to make it into the 6th inning.  Prior to this Colon had always pitched at least six innings while permitting no more than four runs.

Colon has only allowed a single homerun to the current Cardinals roster with just over 100 at bats.  His last start against them in 2014 he went 8 innings, allowing just four hits and one run.

He’s probably had the most problems against Mark Reynolds, who is 6-for-17 against him with two doubles.

Matt Holliday can also prove dangerous going up against Colon, going 3-for-10 at bats with three RBIs.

Also consider:

Andrew McClutchen – Going up against Minnesota’s Mike Pelfrey, McClutchen is 5-for-10 at bats.  He’s also got three RBIs.

Nick Markakis – He’s hit in all but two of his last eight games and is 5-for-11 with a homerun against Jake Odorizzi.

Justin Smoak – 10-for-34 against the Angels Jered Weaver with 6 extra bases, 3 homeruns and 8 RBIs. Though struggling of late, he’s gone .400 over the past seven days.
